Married in June of 1999, Bret and I have had an exciting journey! Together, we have experienced Bret finishing seminary and becoming a pastor, then me finishing medical school and residency in family medicine, and starting in private practice. We have lived in several cities - all in the great state of South Carolina. Bret is a lifelong Georgia Bulldog and, of course, Alicia is a true "blood runneth orange" Clemson Tiger! Our life was incredibly full of God's blessings when, in the spring of 2003, we began our journey through infertility.
Three very long years later, our prayers were answered in the birth of Aaron Bret II on May 19, 2006. Thinking we might get started on the next three years, the Lord surprised us with our precious redhead, Bryson Isaac, born on December 18, 2007. His middle name means "laughter", because of the joy we felt when the Lord blessed us beyond our expectations.
With two very active boys around the house, Bret being an Associate Pastor at Utica Baptist and my private practice in Clemson, our lives were incredibly busy....but also fun. Then, in June of 2009, we were pregnant yet again! We knew this would be our third very active boy...so imagine our surprise when we found out......it's a girl!!!!
In October 2009, at our anatomy ultrasound, we discovered that the Lord had blessed us with a very special little girl. Jana would be born with cleft lip and possible cleft palate. The next months were filled with ultrasounds and specialist visits. They were also filled with prayers...from our precious friends, family and church.
On February 23, 2010, our precious Jana Alyse was placed into our arms for the first time. My first words to her: "Hello, beautiful!". We were holding the most precious, most beautiful girl we had ever seen. The Lord had blessed us again...and found us worthy of caring for this precious baby girl.
Over the past three months, Jana has blessed us tremendously. There were feeding issues and a hospitalization to help correct the issues in April. We are travelling to Atlanta several times each month to see her Craniofacial team of specialists. She will have her first surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta on July 14th.
We have started this blog to help share our experiences with those we love. Our journey has been great thus far, but we look forward to seeing how God will bless in the future. Follow along on the Tolbert family adventures and as we raise "The Tolbert Trio"!
